We start with the belief that all ministry is transitional. We are called to be intentional–theologically, biblically, through our knowledge and assessment of systems–- as we lead congregations through change. Some ministry is in an intentional season of change, in leadership or in the church’s understanding of its own identity. All ministry needs leaders well versed in understanding change processes and leadership within them.

Synchronous Certification Courses

Our Citizenry School teaches The Art of Transitional Ministry, offering Parts 1 and 2 around the fundamentals of intentional transitional ministry. We are a part of the Transitional Ministry Education Consortium of the Presbyterian Church USA and formerly served as the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary site. Over the last three years, we have welcomed participants from many denominations and across 8 different time zones. Participants have come from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA), the Reformed Church of America (RCA), the United Church of Christ (UCC), the Episcopal Church of America (ECA), the Presbyterian Church of Canada, and the United Methodist Church (UMC).

I was illumined, challenged, instructed, and inspired by this course. I appreciated the depth and breadth of the instructors' respective practice-based insights, realism, and guidance in the work of transitional ministry. The variety of on-line learning formats (large group, small group, dyads) and opportunity for individual reflection during the opening and closing devotions/muses, were all a blessing and inimitable resource for my own future leadership in this vitally important area of Spirit's ongoing upbuilding of the church of Christ for the work of ministry serving the welfare of this beloved and beleaguered world.
Rev. Dr. Daniel Carlson
Reformed Church in America
Passionate, knowledgeable instructors and a committed cohort of fellow students made this an engaging and enriching experience. I highly recommend "The Art of Transitional Ministry" not only for intentional Transitional Pastors, but for anyone who recognizes that all ministry in a changing world is transitional.
